WHAT TO WEAR?

Just starting riding lessons can be nerve racking for any aged rider, so let us take the worry of 'what to wear' so you can concentrate on having fun.

It is so important to have the correct fitting hat when riding, if it's too tight you could get a headache, to large and you cant see, and either will reduce your level of saftey. Some riding schools will have a selection of hats for you to borrow, but call and check before and on their policies.

Jodphurs (Riding Trousers) (image here)
Jodphurs are pull on riding trousers ideal for first time riding, or at the yard wear. They prevent rubbing from the saddle and allow flexibility for movement.

Jodphur boots (riding boots) (image here)
It is important, for safety reasons, that healed shoes with gripped soles are worn when riding, this stop the foot slipping through the stirrup (as shown above) and getting caught.  Many first riders wear wellington boots for their first riding lesson, however these are not advised for long term use, and some riding shools will not allow them for riding in.  Riding boots have been designed to optimise saftey, comfort and support whilst riding and are allowed in allowed in all riding shows and riding schools.

Gloves (image here)
It is common for first time riders to get blisters from the holding the reins as their skin is not used to the movement of leather through their fingers. Beginners grip gloves start from just £1.
